sprucing up to DANCE

The stage is set, the lights are 'on' and the music awaits the happy feet to go in sync with. What a deadly combination. Technically speaking, we are linking the movement of the legs below with the gentle sense of the ears. Well if you ask me, I would say that a dancer is also a singer, except that he is not singing with his mouth, but with his hands and legs. Every move made by him is correlated to the music and has a perfect meaning. And above all it gives him an inexplicable style with which he can live his life.

'Anybody can DANCE'. It is not something acquired by the body, but you are born with it. You just need to realize it. Instead of being a nerd and drawling in the seat, we can always hop up and become a go-go dancer. We are all in the wrong notion that dance is a separate activity and this is not ideal for an academician. But if you dig deeper, even dance is a study. It is a study of gentle moments and encryption of the words that you want to express with the moves you make. The dancer's body is simply a luminous manifestation of the soul. The best part is that everyone’s eyes are on you. They are all here today in the amphitheater only to see your dance. These are the words that keep engrossing my mind whenever I get onto the stage. And the support given by my friends also play a very important role. At this note I would like to mention the names of two of my best friends Ranajit Adhikary and Ashish Saran who were the ones who brought me into this impeccable field. Of course even they were first timers. We 3 were so excited when we danced for the 1st time. That’s when I felt that even my heart had hands and legs and it was dancing inside me. We formed a good team and my due respect to my school DPS which was a temple to whatever I am today. The environment in which we grow plays a very important role about the actions we make. So a good school or college should provide them and Im sure we students shall make the best of it.

Im really disappointed by the way people look at this marvelous art. Today, it is just taken as a piece of entertainment. We just find dances being performed in a college fest, freshers, farewell parties, etc. It looks to me more like a time-pass or a magic show just to keep the audience in good mood. And all the dances are predestined to go for a mass look with harsh music which arouses the audience instead of showcasing the talent or the art of showing the magnificent moves our body can make. Each college should have a choreo-team with a good composer who works together as a team. A good choreographer is very important as he can guide and give them a chance to display their precocious talent for dance.

God is so nice that he gave us a chance of a life time to 'step up' and dance with utmost thrill and enjoyment. I used the word 'lifetime' because god is so rude that he packed all the joys of life into a small package called Youth. It is only at this age that we all can taste this item called 'dancing'. It is at this age that the body listens to what we say and is at the best conditions for any kind of dance-motif. So what are you waiting for Youth. Get up, dress up, and STEP UP into the WORLD of STEPS.

Taking a sanguine view, I would like to share this with you :-

May the wind always be at your back and the sun upon your face. And may the winds of destiny carry you aloft to dance with the stars

  4. I love to Dance..I dance everyday.. everytime when I feel like dancing cozit makes me feel good..

I agree with the present perception of dance as it is limited just as a part of entertainment.. I guess people should start dancing for themselves.. It even serves as a good exercise and keeps our body fit..

    Keep dancing.. Keep rocking..!!

  7. this is wat i felt jus before my first on stage performance after i came to my engineering and i repented y i didnt dance till den....i decided not to care about others and jus wanted to feel the music and move my lazy fat ass around....u need not b perfect dancer to dance...u r not tryin to prove anyone that u r choreographer.it jus resembles ur mind set and brings out ur feelings n expressions in a flow...
its not only about some performances,u can always dance anywhere...it relieves u frm tensions...most of them being music lovers try to stick their ipods and sit in some corner...instead shake ur hips especially girls :P and jus move around...let ur feelings flow... have fun!!!enjoy life!!!

  9. yep i was there when you, ashish and rony tried out the steps for your first dance. If i remember correctly it was in the room opposite the library. Again, if i remember correctly the song was "Maria" by ricky martin.
